Jess Lee
Maker, Graphic Designer, Mom
I am at the core a maker but I first started my love for graphic design using Microsoft Paint in 2004. I studied Studio Art, Digital Arts, and Business Management at UC Irvine.
Over the years I’ve dabbled and worked in many mediums and jobs - restaurant owner, event planning and styling, crochet and sewing, branding, wedding invitation, interior design, freelance designer, letterer, and creating wood goods. I like to make things beautiful and I’m a sucker for good kerning and fixing widows and orphans. Alignment, guides, and organization please.
I’m also working towards our Cool Kids Club brand!
Highlights in my life.
Ex-Restauranteer
My husband and I owned a restaurant from 2016-2018 in Little Tokyo in California. The opportunity came and we took the leap. With no restaurant experience, I overnight became the accountant, chef, cashier, dishwasher, human resources, manager, and everything in between.
Mother
I am a mom of 3 (5, 4, 3 years old) and adopting a 4th internationally. Over the years I have worked on communication, organization, supervising, problem solving, time management, crisis management, and homeschooling. It sounds silly to note but the gap years from the time I was not working in the corporate field, I’ve been honing on other skills in life worth mentioning. I’m a beige mom who loves colorful designs.
Tidbits
I make time to watch TV — Bachelor franchise, Marvel movies are the hits
Disneyland annual passholders for 10 years until we decided we needed furniture
Everyday goal is to have my email inbox at “0”
Our family releases a magazine every year on our wedding anniversary
I believe in treating yourself every day and do what it takes to make tasks enjoyable
My aim is to make art that makes sense and is beautiful.
Applications
I primarily work in Illustrator and have experience working with Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Canva. As a freelance designer, my goal is to create systems and files that are flexible and scalable for clients so designing in Google Workspace or Microsoft Suite may be preferred.
